Monotype

Another day, another task.

Alright so in this project we had to base our work on climate change and take inspiration from Greta Thunberg, a known climate activist. First of all, who is Greta Thunberg?

To quote wikipedia (yes I know, one's teacher would tell you to not use this website, but guess what, it has a lot of information that is easy to understand and it's easy to navigate.)
"Greta Thunberg (born 3 January 2003) is a school girl in Sweden who, at age 15, began protesting about the need for immediate action to combat climate change outside the Swedish parliament and has since become an outspoken climate activist. She is known for having initiated the school strike for climate movement that formed in November 2018 and surged globally after the United Nations Climate Change Conference  in December the same year. Her personal activism began in August 2018, when her recurring and solitary Skolstrejk för klimatet ("School strike for the climate") protesting outside the Swedish parliament in Stockholm began attracting media coverage. On 15 March 2019, an estimated 1.4 million students in 112 countries around the world joined her call in the striking and protesting. Another event is scheduled for 24 May 2019.
Thunberg has received various prizes and awards for her activism. In March 2019, three members of the Norwegian parliament nominated Thunberg for the Nobel Peace Prize."

First of all, the monotype I worked on, based on the theme: "climate" and "climate change"

I wanted to focus on black and white, I did not want a lot of distracting colours, no matter how beautiful those colours were. The artwork is called "Freedom, Adaptation & Communication" it's a few of the words that the common bird, Seagull (or just gull) symbolize. The seagull is very common along the edge of Norway, a country filled with disappearing nature and oil leaking in the sea. All the black represent everything bad, plastic, oil, gas etc. It has trapped nature, humanity's damaging nature has taken away the freedom mother nature once had and that is the message I want my artwork to give. But you might wonder what those three colourful dots are, a little colour to give the artwork some balance, a long time ago, yellow, red and green were the colours used when painting a rainbow.
