Shutter Speed

Shutter speed is the length of time that your camera shutter is open. A camera shutter is simply put a curtain in front of your camera (Which opens when the camera fires, to collect light). The length of time your camera shutter is open has a few important effect in how your images will appear.

If your shutter speed is long, moving objects will appear blurred (this is called motion blur), if your shutter speed is short then the moving objects will appear clear and you'll be able to see the details of the objects.

Shutter speed will also have an effect on the brightness of the photograp, the photograp will become darker if the shutter speed is quicker, and brighter if the shutter speed is longer.

There are different settings for shutter speed, the first one being TV (short for Time Value) and S (short for Shutter)!

This photo was taken with a long shutter speed, and because of this the person in the photograp looks blurred.

compared to this photograp where the shutter speed is very short. In both the first picture and the second picture the person is in motion. You can see in the second photo everything is clear and you can see every detail on the person.
